Young Eagles bring home victories By MARVIN BAKER New Town’s fifth and sixth grade girls basketball teams took it to the opposition Saturday in Watford City, coming away with two championships. For the fifth grade, it was Marissa Baker pouring in 14 points to lead the Eagles to a 22-21 win over Twin Buttes. Kirah Morsette added six and Haley Pettersen added 6 and 2 respectively for New Town who opened the tournament with a 26-16 win over Parshall. In the sixth-grade division, the Eagles held Mandaree to 9 points in cruising to the opening win 36-9. The Eagles had balanced scoring throughout in gaining the easy victory. Cedar Wolf and Chelsea Quick Bear each scored 8 points, followed by Kamryn Deegan and Shayna Salter, each chipping in 6 points. Cheyenne Fox, Mia Wilkinson and Haley Pettersen also added 4, 2 and 2 respectively in the win. Salter and Quick Bear were the only two New Town players to score in the title tilt, but it was enough to take the win, 16-11 over Parshall. Each player scored 8 points down the stretch. In the third-place game it was Watford City outlasting Mandaree.
