Wolves upend Braves championship hopes

After upsetting the favored New Town Eagles in the semifinals of the Region 8 Girls Basketball Tournament in Williston, the Parshall Braves were hopeful coming into the championship game against the Watford City Wolves. They couldn’t break through the Wolve’s defense or hit their free throws and fell 61-36.
“We didn’t execute what we wanted to do,” said Braves Head Coach Dusty Olson. “We did a good job on Sundeen. Rebounds were a big thing. You have to give it to Watford City, they boxed out and picked up the loose balls.”
Both teams got into foul trouble early. Parshall’s Asa Deane had four fouls in the first half and Aulora Severance and Lexie Tveter both had three. Avery Sundeen and and Sydney Sandford both had three fouls for the Wolves. The big difference in the half was that the Wolves sank 14 of their 22 free throws while the Braves hit just 4 of 13. The Wolves led by three after the first quarter and exended their lead to 33-24 at the half.
