Wildcats ‘doing all right’

Team starts 4-1

By STU MERRY

The Lewis & Clark Makoti-Plaza Wildcats boys basketball team is smiling as it heads into the Christmas break. Why not? They have every reason to.

The Wildcats began the season 2-0, and following the Stanley Tournament, now stand at 4-1, placing third in the tourney. The Wildcats are off until Jan. 4 when the team faces Glenburn.

In the Stanley Tournament, the Wildcats opened against Ray. Coach Josh Johnson said the team played all right, at one point being up by double digits. But ….

"We had too many defensive lapses, gave up some open shots, got into bad foul trouble, and they came back," the coach said. "We were able to do just enough to hold on for the victory."

Johnson said he thought the game was riddled with mental lapses. "Once we get up on teams we can’t let them back into the game," he said.

In the score book, the Wildcats were led by Costas Kok’s 20; Alec Lee added 18, Jacob Edwards scored 14, Austin Schenfisch 8 and Joey Peterson 6. The final score was 66-63.
The semifinal game was against Berthold. "Their defense and speed put us on our heels to begin with, and we couldn’t get much going because of the pressure," Johnson said.
