New Town’s play in the District 15 volleyball tournament was indicative of the season the Eagles had.
There were flashes of brilliance and sources of major frustration as New Town dropped out of the 2010 campaign with it’s 3-0, District 15 loss to the Trenton Tigers in loser-out action.
Both teams started out with the intent of staging an exciting battle for the hometown fans, but as the match wore on, the players wore out. The first game was a see-saw battle early on until Trenton’s LeNae Ferrell stepped up with a kill at 7-7 that seemed to turn the tide for the Tigers.
Trenton continued building up its lead until taking game 1, 25-14.
New Town tried to regroup and took a 4-0 lead into the second game behind the serving of Kassidy Brenna. More confidence went the Eagles way as they built an 8-1 lead with Jayden James serving.
Eventually, New Town went up 12-5 and that was about as close as the Eagles got. Trenton chipped away at the Eagles lead and cut the deficit to 13-8, New Town, and at that point, coach Terry Mathson called time.
