Third ranked Velva pummels Eagles

By Jerry W. Kram
The New Town Eagles have played some of the best teams in Class A 11 man football this year and their record reflects it, but head coach Kevin Finley is hopeful that these games will pay dividends as the Eagles move into their district schedule. However, they weren’t able to mount much of a challenge to the third-ranked Velva Aggies Friday as they lost 54-0.
“I’ve been with these guys since they were in the fifth grade,” Finley said. “I told them I would be with them until they were seniors. I was fortunate enough that the New Town High School let me have that opportunity.”
The Aggies scored on their opening play on a run by Gage Florence that went about 60 yards. The Eagles weren’t able to generate any offense against the larger Velva team, and went three and out on their first two possessions. The Aggies scored again at the eight minute mark, four minute mark and at the very end of the first quarter to make the score 28-0 after the first period.
