The coming Storm
NHSC athletic programs to resume

Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College Athletic Director Kyle DeCoteau and new Mens Basketball Coach Daryl Bearstail liked what they saw as more than 20 potential players for the NHSC Storm gathered at the New Town High School gymnasium for introductions and a shoot-around.
While many of the athletes were from New Town, Parshall and other Fort Berthold schools, some came from as far as Fort Yates and Detroit Lakes for an education and a chance to play for the NHSC Storm. DeCoteau said it was a promising start for the team after the basketball program skipped a year two years ago and struggled last season.
“A lot of these players are from the MHA nation and are great basketball players,” DeCoteau said. “Other players will see them out here and want to play for us as well. We want as many basketball players as possible, and I have to say, it looks good. There are a lot more players here than I expected. Practically every player I’ve dreamed of recruiting from around here is here.”
DeCoteau said he thought it would be another year or two before the program could return to prominence, but Tuesday’s turnout made him optimistic the team will be able to compete at a high level this year.
“In just one we may be able to do very well in this conference,” he said. “It was hard to go to some of the games last year and report those scores and try to get people to come out and watch. But we pushed through and we will go from there.”
