Taft paces New Town in early season scoring surge
Taft paces New Town in early season scoring surge By MARVIN BAKER Shayna Taft continued on her torrid scoring pace Tuesday night against Garrison, popping in 18 points to lead the Eagles over the Garrison Troopers, 59-25. Although Orville Drosdal’s Eagles had balanced scoring, Taft was the only player to reach double figures. Others who figured prominently in the scoring included Jayli Fimbres, 7, and Braedyn Taft, Alvina Wolf, Shelby Baker, Rayan Wolf and Carolyn Wolf, each had six points in the lopsided win. It was the fifth game this season in which Taft led the Eagles in scoring. In fact, she burned up the net during the Fabulous 14 Tournament, scoring 67 points in the four games the Eagles played in. Against Mandaree, Taft hit 21 and dropped in 22 against Ray. She included 18 in the Parshall contest. In the Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood game in which the Eagle were thumped 65-21, Taft managed six points but was in the middle of the pack and finished second to Shelby Baker who had nine in that game. Playing Garrison at home Tuesday night was the first regular-season game for the Eagles, and did they perform for their home crowd. The game was never in doubt and by halftime, New Town had built up 24-11 lead. In the second half, it was all Eagles as Taft and company opened the flood gates with 35 second-half points to cruise to the win.
