Shorthanded Eagles fall in overtime

By Jerry W. Kram
It was Senior Night as the New Town Eagles took the floor for their season finale against the ninth ranked Beulah Miners (16-3) in New Town Saturday but two seniors weren’t able to suit up because they were academically ineligible. The shorthanded Eagles forced the Miners into overtime, but ran out of steam and were tagged with the 89-83 loss.
Without seniors Kovey Hale and Terrence Steele, Head Coach Robert White was forced to go with a six man rotation instead of his usual eight. Junior D.J. Lebeau stepped up his game and scored 32 points on the evening, but the Miners, led by Derek Ferebee’s 27 points, had too many weapons at the end of the game.
“Missing guys hurt a little bit,” White said. “It cut down on our depth and our ability to rest guys.”
