Rebuilding isn’t easy

By Jerry W. Kram
Putting together anything from scratch is always tough, and rebuilding an athletic program is no different. Just as Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College Lady Storm Basketball Coach Tayla Bercier.
Bercier and NHSC Athletic Director Kyle DeCoteau have their work cut out for them to rebuild NHSC sports programs after they went dormant for a year. That showed in the Lady Storm’s first home game at the Johnny Bird Memorial Hall in Four Bears segment last week. The Storm were dumped by the United Tribes Technical College 118-41.
“It’s been a slow start but we are slowly progressing,” Bercier said. “We’re getting there each and every day.”
Bercier said the Storm weren’t able to do any recruiting early in the off season so most of the players were found among the college’s existing student body. Many of the players were years removed from their high school basketball days so Bercier really was starting from scratch
