New Town’s seventh grade ‘player of the week’ named

This week’s seventh grade "Player of the Week" honoree in New Town is Rayessa Baker. Rayessa currently has a 10 point-per-game average with her high game being 13 vs. Parshall two weeks ago.

"Her strengths are her aggressiveness and her knack for getting to the basketball," said coach Damon Brady. "She can always be counted on to beat practice and play with intensity at a high level."

She has very good speed and quickness that allows her to play both ends of the floor equally hard.

"Rayessa will have a very good career in basketball," Brady said. "And we can expect a lot of good things from her."

She also averages eight rebounds per game with her most being 10 vs. Watford City. In addition, Rayessa averages three steals per game and one block.

She has helped lead the seventh-grade Eagles to a 2-1 record with wins over Parshall and Watford City. The Eagles were led in scoring in their latest victory by Baeleigh Brady with 9 points and Rayessa had 8 as the team defeated the Wolves, 35-24.

The Eagles’ only setback was this past Tuesday night with a loss to the Stanley Blue Jays, 27-26. They were led in scoring by Rayessa with 9 points, Baeleigh chipped in with 7 and Lariah Quickbear added 7.
