New Town thrills hometown crowd despite loss to Killdeer

New Town thrills hometown crowd despite loss to Killdeer
By MARVIN BAKER
The New Town Eagles and Killdeer Cowboys played one of the most intense basketball games in recent memory in New Town with the Cowboys coming out on top with a 76-70 win.
This game was close throughout the contest and one could tell that was going to be the trend from the beginning of the game. The teams fought early and often exchanging baskets until Killdeer secured a 21-20 lead at the end of the first quarter.
New Town chiseled away in the second, however, capitlizing on a couple of Killdeer miscues and gaining some momentum going into halftime with a 34-25 edge.
It was all New Town in the third as well, as the Eagles seemed comfortable with their nine-point cushion, completing the third quarter with an 8-point lead at 53-45.
Then, in the fourth, the Cowboys came storming back in a big way. Tanner Olson and Ethan Harris took charge of the offense helping their team score 25 points in the final eight minutes to secure the six-point, hard-fought win on the road.
Three New Town players hit double figures. In fact, Jordy James and Mike Young Bird hit 49 between them. James led all scorers with 25 and Young Bird was right behind at 24. Jessy Cury also hit double figures for the Eagles with 10. Jeremiah Wells, Alex Baker, Chris Enno, Brandon Poitra and Turae White Buffalo also got into the scoring column.
