The New Town Eagles didn’t win Friday’s football game against the Velva Aggies but at least scored four times to earn some respect.
Unfortunately, Velva poured it on early scoring 47 of its 66 points in the first quarter, leaving Dave Williams’ troops a deep hole to climb out.
But the Eagles answered as best they could with two scoring strikes in the second quarter and two more in the third. It was the most points New Town has scored in one game this season after being shut out against Belfield, at Berthold and Des Lacs/Burlington.
The Eagles managed a single score against Harvey, but were soundly defeated in that game.
According to Williams, the good news is that New Town’s offense can move the football and as indicated Friday, can score some points. His concern now turns to the defense, which is made up of players who are playing both sides of the football and are often tired in crucial situations.
If the defense can step it up, there may be some hope to salvage the season.
