New Town, Parshall advance to Region 8 Tournament

There will be many familiar faces on the floor of the Northern Lights Building in New Town on Monday. Both the Parshall Lady Braves and New Town Lady Eagles qualified for the tournament in the District 15 Basketball Tournament last week in Williston.
The Lady Eagles are the fourth seed from District 15 and will play Stanley at 3 p.m. Monday to open the regional tournament. The Lady Braves are the second seed and will play the Ray Jays in the following game. Should they win, the teams will have a rematch of the game that Parshall won 75-49 in the regular season.
The Eagles earned their place in the regional tournament with victories over the White Shield Warriors and the North Shore Plaza Wildcats sandwiched around a loss to the Watford City Wolves. The Braves path to the tournament saw them demolish the Trinity Christian Crusaders and Trenton Tigers before they too fell to the Wolves.
The Eagles opened the tournament against a game White Shield team, but a dominant second quarter sealed the Warriors fate as New Town triumphed 80-50. The Warriors actually held a three point lead halfway through the first quarter, but the Eagles had an extended scoring run that put the game nearly out of reach by halftime.
"We started out a little sluggish, which can happen in the first game of a tournament," said Eagles Head Coach Cliff Tollefson. "So you just have to come out ready to play. The second quarter really picked us up for us."
