The New Town Lady Eagles traveled to Watford City on Tuesday night for their first District 15 matchup of the season and of 2012.
Led by Baeleigh Brady with 23 points, the Lady Eagles were able to improve to 6-0 on the season with a 59-49 victory.
With the quickness of New Town’s full court pressure, the Lady Eagles had an early eight point lead after the first quarter (18-10) and expanded the lead to 12 by halftime (35-23). Foul trouble would force New Town to take the full court press off in the second half allowin the defending Region 8 champion Watford City Wolves to gain a little bit of ground on the Lady Eagles. In the third quarter as New Town held onto a seven point (45-38) lead going into the fourth quarter. The Lady Eagles outscored Watford City 14-11 in the final quarter of play and advanced to 6-0 on the season.
New Town Lady Eagles head coach, Orville Drosdal, was pleased with the victory following a two week holiday break that could easily put rust on any team who are experiencing the kind of success the Lady Eagles have had this season.
“We struggled a little bit at times but Watford City is a team that is going to get out there and they are going to put a lot of pressure on you in the full court and in the half court,” said Drosdal. “They are going to make you play at a fast pace. We were doing the same thing and we were lagging at times but overall it wasn’t too bad.
