Clutch free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter Tuesday night sent the New Town Eagles back to the Region 8 basketball championship for the second straight year.
The Eagles were scheduled to play District 15 foe Watford City in the championship game Thursday night about 7:30. The game was too late for the press and full details will be in next week’s edition. It was the fourth time this season the two teams have met.
New Town survived a scare early in the fourth quarter Tuesday as the Divide County Maroons went on a 14-1 to cut a 16-point lead down to three. But key free throws by Jeremiah Wells, Donovan Lambert and Alex Baker helped build New Town’s lead back up as the clock ran out and the Eagles won the game, 71-51.
Divide County drew first blood in the contest and after knotting the score at 6, it appeared the Eagles were running away with the game, and they were. New Town continues building a strong lead throughout the game using fast breaks, a three-quarter court defense and a little razzle dazzle to keep the Maroons guessing.
