New Town grapplers place 3 in state, finish 16th

New Town placed three of its six qualifying wrestlers in the State B Wrestling Tournament held in Fargo last weekend.
Senior Eric Danks, 215 pounds, improved on his fifth-seed by placing fourth. Sophomore Jess Hall matched his seed by placing fourth, and junior Billy Hall, seeded third, fell to sixth place.
Others wrestling were: Junior Jace Uran at 171 pounds who was 1 – 2, 160-pound senior Ivan Wilson who was 0-2, and junior heavyweight Slade Stringer also 0 – 2. As a team, the Eagles finished in 16th place overall.
New Town also competed in the State Dual Tournament. The Eagles were shut down by the eventual team champions, Oakes, 67 – 12. New Town scored on pins by Eric Danks and Billy Hall.
In the consolation round, Killdeer downed the Eagles 45 – 32. The Cowboys went on to place fifth. Winning matches for the Eagles against Killdeer were Jess Hall, Eric Danks and Slade Stringer by pin, Billy Hall and Ivan Wilson by major decision and Sheldon Standish by forfeit.
In the individual tournament, Jess Hall won three of five matches. He lost to New Salem by pin in the semis and lost his third-place matchDes Lacs/Burlington 4 – 2.
Hall had two pins in advancing to the semis and won 5 – 2 in the consolation semis. He finished 23 -9 for the season. Danks was also 3 – 2 in the tournament. He advanced to the semis by pin and decision. His 5-1 quarterfinal decision avenged an earlier loss to Napoleon at the East – West Tournament.
