New Town girls, Fimbres, win Valley City cross country meet
New Town’s girls varsity cross country team blasted through the competition Saturday in Valley City to take first place and outlast the Parshall Braves, who finished second.
The cross country meet on Saturday, was held in Valley City, which is the site of the state meet this year, so it was a huge meet with all of the teams and individuals who will compete at state for the most part.
The girls’ team won the meet with 39 total teams competing. There were 224 runners in the girls’ varsity run..
The Eagles took first with a score of 137, Parshall was second with 157 points, Killdeer third at 171, Bismarck JV with 192, and Velva rounded out the top five with 193 points.
Jayli Fimbres was the champion of the meet for the Eagles. She was followed by Symbria Bell third, Brooke Fettig, 35th, Taylor McGrady 39th, and Alvina Wolf 59th for the winning score of 137.
“ It was a great team effort by the girls in a meet that featured all of the top runners from Class B and many very good runners on the Class A JV teams,” said head coach Brian Anderson.
The junior high girls did well in their division against 34 teams and 143 total runners in a very large run. Finishing for the Eagles were Taylor LeBeau in 40th, Baeleigh Brady in 74th, and Ariana Bell in 85th place. They finished 15th out of the 34 teams.
The boys’ varisity finished in second place with 140 points against 40 teams. Rugby won the meet with 74, New Town 140, Bismarck JV third with 193, Grand Forks Central JV with 226, and Valley City fifth with 227.
