Jayli Fimbres hit double figures for the Eagles Tuesday night forcing overtime in the Dynamic Dozen Girls Basketball Tournament in Stanley, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Stanley Blue Jays went on to win in OT, 45-38.
Fimbres was the only New Town player to score 10, but veteran Cheyenne Brady added 9 in the Eagles loss.
Stanley’s Rachel Mehus may have been the difference in the game as she was unstoppable, pouring in 21 points to lead the Blue Jays on their home court. And like Fimbres for New Town, was the only Stanley player to score in double figures.
The game was close all the way down the stretch. After a first quarter 5-5 tie, New Town added 12 to Stanley’s six in the second frame to gain an edge going into halftime.
