In the 2010-11 regular-season finale Tuesday night, New Town pushed its high school boys basketball record to 18-1 with an 84-67 thrashing of the ninth-ranked Beulah Miners.
Although the early score didn’t indicate it, the Eagles started this game out in impressive fashion, moving the ball at a high-rate of speed and using every opportunity to score and get the ball to the open man to score. Beulah actually held the lead for a very short time early in the game following a Leighton Guthmiller three-pointer that put the Miners up by a point.
But that didn’t last long and after New Town head coach Chuck Hunter called time out with his team leading 13-10, the Eagles got busy and left no doubt they are going to be a team to contend with throughout the playoff season.
Hunter wasn’t terribly surprised that his team took it to the Miners, even flirting with a 30-point lead in the third quarter. He said Watford City won over Beulah in recent action so he knew what his players were up against.
