New Town drops season opener
The New Town Eagles volleyball team opened the 2008 season on the road Aug. 28 in Underwood, dropping three straight sets to the Comets.
Underwood took an early lead and coasted to the wins of 25-10; 25-14 and 25-8.
Several players turned in key performances including Shelby Baker who had five digs, one assisted block and three kills. Carissa Weber and Renatta Morning Star each had a kill and Jacqueline Pusc was the lone Eagle player to get an ace.
“Our inexperience showed on the court,” said head coach Amy Fuoss. “With two of our starters out, we had a lot of young players on the court. Although we were serving and transitioning well, our confidence fell when we were receiving serve and that was a huge factor in the match.”
Fuoss said she is excited that her girls will be playing Underwood again at the end of the year because her team will have shown marked improvement by then.
