New Town beats Watford in another thriller

The New Town Eagles built a 3-0 record in the young basketball season by living dangerously Dec. 18. Their opening matchups at home against Killdeer and Beach were thrilling overtime victories. They continued their new tradition of nail biters on the road by tipping perennial District 15 rival Watford City in another overtime classic, 88-83. The team finally broke its overtime streak with double digit wins over Beach and Bowman County.

New Town came out fast in the game, scoring 24 points in the first quarter to the Wolves 16. Watford City cut the Eagles lead to 5 at the half and New Town held onto that lead through the third quarter, 60-55. The Wolves had their own rally in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Eagles 21-16 to force the extra period. The Eagles, like they have the previous two games, came out strong in extra time, outscoring the Wolves 12-7 to nail down the victory.

Payton White Owl led the Eagles with 27 points. Elijah Grady had 23 points and Daryl Grady added another 22. Leading scorers for the Wolves were David Kline 27,Seth Indergard 18, Cameron Runnels 14, and Logan Fettig 12.
