Near perfection

Eagles Boys win State Cross Country with score of 17

Wheeling is state champion

Last year’s New Town Boys Cross Country team set a school record at the North Dakota State Cross Country meet with a low score of 24, improving on the previous year’s score of 45. What could the 2015 team do for an encore?

They placed five runners in the top six places for a total score of 17, just two points away from a perfect score. They were paced by Ryan Wheeling, who won a state championship after coming in second last year. Coach Brian Anderson was named Coach of the Year and Joe Chase was named Senior Athlete of the year.

"The Eagles boys came away with the State Championship with a great overall team effort," said Anderson. "It was an excellent team effort for the Eagles who capped off a great year in which they won all the meets they entered except the Dickinson meet where they got second. Both teams were very enjoyable to work with and we are looking forward to next year with many members returning from this year’s teams. We will miss our two seniors, Joe Chase and Kirah Morsette."

Following Wheeling as the Individual State Champion, Jalen Chase was second, Joe Chase third, Chace Hale fifth, Jaiven Hale sixth, Robert White ninth, Daniel LeBeau 11th, Mike Baker 20th, Colby Antell 27th, and Terrance Steele 42nd. The second five New Town runners would have had a score of 109. Rugby was second with 178, Hillsboro Central Valley third with 179, Beulah Hazen fourth at 194, and Bowman County fifth with 213.
