Mavericks come close at sectionals

The Makoti Mavericks made a nice run in the Section 6 Tournament in Garrison last week. The Mavericks went undefeated in the double-elimination tournament until the championship games, when Watford City beat them by scores of 10-0 and 11-0.
Crosby gave the Mavericks a scare in the first round last Tuesday. Makoti eked out a 16-15 win in the 10-inning marathon that was postponed after eight innings due to darkness. The game was resumed Wednesday morning. Crosby scored 1 run in the top of the 10th to break a tie that had held for three innings. Makoti answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs to take the walk-off win.
Jaren Enockson picked up the win for Makoti. Nolan Hauge and Enockson each homered in the game.
The Mavericks beat Renville County 9-6 on Wednesday night. Renville County jumped out to 4-0 lead, but the Mavericks answered with four-run innings in the third and fourth and never looked back. Renville County mounted a small rally in the seventh, but it fell short. Chandler Karna picked up the win for Makoti.
