Local boys attend Jayhawks basketball camp
Driver, Haddeland spend a week in Kansas

Cole Driver and Rowdy Haddeland got the opportunity of a lifetime in June when they attended the Bill Self basketball camp at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
Both boys, 13, say the camp helped them learn about fundamentals such as dribbling the basketball, how to make and carry out plays and it has made them more disciplined basketball players.
That’s a lot for a 13-year-old kid to know in any sport, but then, they were taught by one of the best, who took his team to the NCAA title in 2008.
There were approximately 300 kids from sixth grade through high school attending the week-long camp in Lawrence from all across the Midwest. As you might expect, many of the kids were from the states of Kansas and Missouri and Rowdy and Cole were the only players representing North Dakota.
Cole’s mother Clarice, said both boys, who are neighbors, are big fans of University of Kansas basketball and at one point, they were online looking fo KU information and ran across the annual camp that Self manages.
“They found the camp online and we made it happen,” Clarice Driver said. “There were eight college coaches working with the kids.”
According to Cole, the camp made him a better ball handler and shooter, something he is going to need as he progresses into junior varsity and varsity basketball.
“It wasn’t hard,” he said. “But I learned a lot about techniques.”
