Lady Eagles win NW Conference Tourney
Win over Dickinson Trinity on Tuesday to advance to 5-0

An 18-4 scoring surge in the second quarter of the Northwest Conference Fab 14 Tournament in Stanley Saturday night was enough to overcome a one point deficit for the Lady Eagles as they went into halftime up 33-20. The Ray Lady Jays were able to put up a late scoring surge of their own in the fourth quarter but the Lady Eagles held on to beat Ray to win the tournament 62-56.
The Lady Eagles quickly came back to the court on Tuesday night as they hosted Dickinson Trinity. In the championship game against Ray, Baeleigh Brady was the Lady Eagles leading scorer with 21 points to help her team with the win. On Monday night, it was Gabrielle Wilkinson who scored 21 en route to a Lady Eagles 79-52 victory over Dickinson Trinity.
New Town Eagles head coach, Orville Drosdal, was pleased that the Lady Eagles were able to win even though he thought the team could have played better.
“We came out and we played well,” said Drosdal. “We didn’t play as good as we would have liked to against Ray. They played a nice game. We didn’t play together, we thought, we didn’t defend very well. But if you can play a game that you feel you didn’t play your best basketball, that speaks something for the team. Tonight, I thought, we came out and played a lot better. We looked for each other. We passed the ball a lot better. It was more of a team effort both offensively and defensively.
“One of our goals was to win each ball game one at a time,” Drosdal continued. “So far, we’ve got five in-a-row. We’ve never beaten (Dickinson) Trinity. I think we have played them nine or 10 years. This was the first time that we’ve beat them so that was one of our motivating factors for this game and we came out and played hard and that is what we wanted to do.”
After their win on Tuesday night, the Lady Eagles two entire weeks to prepare for their next game and Drosdal said there is still a lot more work he has planned for his team and he is not too worried about coming back and continuing success.
