Lady Eagles take two of three
By Jerry W. Kram
The New Town Eagles Girls Basketball team had a four game winning streak snapped with an 58-56 overtime loss in Trenton on Tuesday. Still, the Eagles picked up two wins this week, beating the North Shore-Plaza Wildcats 53-21 on Friday and Stanley Blue Jays 54-46 on Saturday. Head Coach Cliff Tollefson the Eagles are looking forward to some tough games as they get ready for tournament play in two weeks.
The Lady Eagles never allowed the 2-11 Wildcats to score in double digits for a quarter on Friday, holding them to just two point in the third quarter. The Eagles distributed the ball generously and wound up with eight players in the scoring column by the end of the first half. The Wildcats couldn’t solve the Eagles in the first quarter, and gave up 21 while only scoring five. The score was 32-11 at the half.
"It was good to get back on a winning path and playing well," Tollefson said. "It gets the girls playing with confidence and playing hard. That was the goal against Plaza, playing hard, diving after loose balls, and making sure of all our defensive rebounds. We did that well tonight.
