Lady Eagles start year 2-2

It has been an up and down beginning for the New Town Eagles girls basketball team in the first week of their 2014-15 campaign. They reeled off two quick wins over Ray and Bottineau but dropped their next two games to Bishop Ryan and Dickinson Trinity.

The Eagles dominated the Ray Jays in Ray on Dec. 2, putting them away by a score of 69-34.

They traveled to Minot Friday for the weekend Shootout on the Prairie and beat the Bottineau Stars 56-52. Bottineau led most of the game and boasted a seven point lead at halftime, 40-33. The Eagles pared that lead down to three by the end of the third quarter, 43-40. They put the game away at the free throw line in the final quarter, scoring 16 points in the quarter to secure the win.

"We played really hard," said Eagles Head Coach Cliff Tollefson. "We were down most of the game, but found a way to win it in the end. We wore them down at the end. We played a lot of players and made our free throws at the end. It was ‘never give up.’"

Cedar Wolf and Chelsey Quick Bear led the Eagles with 13 points. The Stars’ leading scorers were Stephanie Brenden 14, 2, Kennedy Olson 13, and Kelsey Bowers 13.
