Lady Eagles pick up first volleyball win

By Jerry W. Kram

The Lady Eagles went 1-2 this week, bouncing back from losses to Sawyer and Powers Lake to pick of their first win of the season against the White Shield Warriors.

The Lady Eagles, led by Jessica Big Crow and Jessica Aubol with eight kills each, powered past the Warriors with scores of 25-13, 25-20 and 28-26. The pair also had four aces apiece and six digs each. Nikki Drosdol also served up four aces.

Big Crow, a senior, also had a big match against the Powers Lake Ranchers, with six kills, two aces and three blocks. Bethany Brown had seven assists. Aubol had 10 digs and Drosdol had seven digs. The Ranchers took the match in three games, 25-16, 25-7, 25-15.

The Sawyer Flashes had the Lady Eagles number, defeating the visiting team 25-14, 25-16, 25-10.

Head Coach Dyan Fox said the Lady Eagles need to work on their fundamentals if they want to continue to improve this season. She said the girl’s lack of communication hurt them in the game against Powers Lake.

"We’re missing the easy stuff," Fox said. "We should should be getting better at mid-season. Communication is a big thing in volleyball, maybe the biggest in any sport. It doesn’t take one, it takes a team to win. We have to work at that."
