Lady Eagles off to hot start

The New Town Eagles girls basketball team has faced some stiff competition in the first week of its season and has come away with a 2-1 record.
The team faced three regular contenders for the North Dakota State Basketball Tournament in its first three games, Thompson and Bishop Ryan in Minot and Dickinson Trinity in the teams home opener last Friday.
New Town had a big second quarter and held on at the end to beat the Thompson Tommies 67-64 and were competitive with the Bishop Ryan Lions for three quarters before falling 55-42. After returning to their home hardwood, the Eagles blew away the Dickinson Trinity Titans by 25 points, 61-36.
“Dickinson Trinity is a good team,” said Eagles Head Coach Damon Brady. “They have a good tradition. For us to protect our home court and get the win like we did, I am very proud of the girls.”
The Eagles started out quickly and were effective at both ends of the court during the first period. Marveen Ross had several steals that she converted to fast breaks or fed the ball to Tamara Fox or Tyleigh Brady for scores. The Eagles built a 10 point lead with a minute to go in the period.
