Lady Eagles get District win over Mandaree

The New Town Lady Eagles had six girls who scored in double figures on Tuesday evening that helped for a victory over the Mandaree Warriors. The Eagles defeated Mandaree 89-50 to move to 15-0 for the season.
“It was a District game against a team that plays well on their home court,” said New Town Lady Eagles head coach Orville Drosdal. “Any time there is a District game you have to be ready to play. We did OK coming into this game.”
The Eagles came out and opened up with a 12-2 lead to begin the game and headed into the second quarter with a 25-12 advantage which they doubled going into halftime with a 50-25 lead. They continued to score often in the third quarter and the Eagles went into the fourth quarter with a 78-34 advantage. The Lady Eagles never looked back as they won the game 89-50.
There are only a three weeks before New Town hosts the District 15 Girls Basketball Tournament and Drosdal says there are definitely areas where the Lady Eagles want to improve.
“We are going to work on defending the rebound,” said Drosdal. “We went into halftime and we had 50 points on the board and you definitely can’t complain about that. We gave up 25 points and we challenged our girls to come out in the third quarter and play some good solid defense. We did a pretty nice job; we held them to nine points in the third quarter with five of those points coming late in the quarter
The Lady Eagles were without one of their starters, Viola Wise Spirit, who is  done for the season with an injury.
