Lady Eagles flying high

The New Town Lady Eagles have been quietly putting together another fine season despite the loss of four starters from last year’s Region 8 championship team. The Lady Eagles added three more wins this week as they enjoy a five game winning streak and a 10-2 record. New Town defeated the Stanley Bluejays Thursday 63-54, the North Shore Plaza Lady Wildcats 85-66 Friday before returning to the Northern Lights Community Center in New Town for a matchup with the Divide County Maroons that they won 70-53.
Head Coach Cliff Tollefson said he has the team working on improving their passing game and he has added more set plays to complement the Lady Eagles uptempo game. The result was a team that sometimes looked a little out of sync at times but was still able to handle its opponents with relative ease.
"We wanted an energized team and they came out with a lot energy and fight," Tollefson said. "That’s exactly what we wanted. We wanted our defense to lead to offense. They played hard on the defensive end and we got some buckets because we were playing hard on the defensive end."
Tollefson said Divide County is a solid man-to-man defensive team that tested the Lady Eagles’ upgraded offense.
"We’ve added some set plays against some of the tougher teams," Tollefson said. "Divide County is a solid team. We need some set plays that we need to execute on. We still need to do some work on them. We are getting better and that is the main thing."
