The New Town Lady Eagles began their 2011-2012 campaign at the Northwest Conference Girls Basketball Tournament on Monday night with a victory over the White Shield Warriors, 77-6. The New Town Lady Eagles Junior Varsity team almost knocked off a Kenmare Honkers varsity squad on Monday night but just came up short, 38-39.
The Lady Eagles went back and forth with the Trenton Tigers on Tuesday night in the second round of the Northwest Conference Tournament for about five minutes, but soon took control to easily advance to the semifinals, 91-27.
“White Shield has a young bunch like they had last year,” said Orville Drosdal, Head Coach of the New Town Lady Eagles. “We knew that there was a possibility that they might struggle. We went out and tried to execute some things.
“We were kind of eager for tonight (Tuesday) to roll around,” Drosdal continued. “Trenton also has a very, very young ball club; they are starting a freshman and an eighth grader. We went out and kind of did some of the things that we wanted to and execute but there are still some things that we need to work on.”
