Lady Eagles’ rallies fall short at state
By Jerry W. Kram

No one can say that the Lady Eagles don’t play an exciting brand of basketball that can produce points in a hurry.
The Lady Eagles proved that by producing some of the most exciting finishes in the 2012 North Dakota Class B Girls Basketball Tournament at the Bismarck Civic Center last week. The New Town cagers outscored the opposition by double digits in the second half of their first and last games, but slow starts in all three games proved too much to over come.
“We played four good quarters in three games this weekend,” said Lady Eagles Coach Orville Drosdal. “The second half of the Shiloh game and the fourth quarter in the other two games we played pretty well. We have to come ready to play with that kind of energy right away. Unfortunately we haven’t been..”
Cold shooting plagued the Lady Eagles in the first half of all their games in the tournament. In the opener against Shiloh Christian, the Lady Eagles managed just five of 27 fields goals and were 0 for 5 from three point range. New Town did better from the free throw line, going a perfect 9 for 9. However, the Lady Skyhawks did even better, going 15 of 18. By the end of the first period, the Lady Eagles were in a deep hole, 32-19.
