Ice derby doubles in size
Snagging a record on Makoti Lake
BY HUNTER L. ANDES
The Hiddenwood Sportsmen Club’s annual ice fishing derby brought in a record number of fishermen last weekend. The ice of Makoti Lake was supporting 163 people, along with numerous fish houses and vehicles, as well.
“Last year we had 77 people register and this year we had 140 adults along with 23 kids,” Shawna Schenfisch, a member of the Hiddenwood Sportsmen Club, said. “The weather is a lot nicer this year than last, but regardless of that, this year is still the all-time record of participants.”
Some participants, like Travis Mowbray and his sons Carter and Brennan of Logan/Sawyer, travelled quite a distance to go ice fishing on Makoti Lake.
