Honkers, Tigers vie for Region title

By Jerry W. Kram
The Trenton Tigers will defend their Region 8 Girls Basketball Tournament title against the Kenmare Honkers at the 4 Bears Event Center Thursday.
The Honkers survived a tough tilt with the Mandaree Warriors in the semifinals Tuesday by building a big lead in the third quarter and holding off a late charge. The Honkers prevailed 44-41. The Tigers has an easier time with the Parshall Braves, who kept the game close by shooting 42 percent from the three point line in the first half, but went icy cold in the third quarter, dropping a 61-46 decision.
Kenmare got to the semifinal game by downing the New Town Eagles 68-57, while the Tigers opening round saw them rout the Powers Lake Ranchers 64-35. The Braves topped the Stanley Bluejays 58-39 in the opening round while Mandaree outlasted the Tioga Pirates 48-41.
