Eagles win Homecoming game
Fumbles slay Dunseith Dragons

Success has been elusive for the New Town Eagles football team for the past several years, especially for the schools homecoming games. This year’s team put together a complete game on both sides of the ball to wallop the Dunseith Dragons 42-18.
Dunseith was first on the board with a first quarter pass for touchdown on their opening drive, with the run for the two point conversion stopped. New Town came right back after receiving the kickoff, capping off a long drive with a 17 yard pass from Shane Buerkle to Gaylen Wells. Darryl Grady ran the ball in for the two point conversion. Dunseith started the second quarter with another strong drive to retake the lead with a 28 yard pass for a touchdown, but again failed to convert on the two point try.
"They started loading up the box on us a couple of time and walked up the linebackers," said head coach Mike Montgomery. "That meant we were able to throw over the top on them and we were fortunate tonight."
At this point in the game, the Eagles defense started to take over. The Eagles started tackling the ball and forced a half dozen turnovers over the two-plus quarters.
"On defense, we’ve been preaching a ‘bend, don’t break’ philosophy," said Montgomery. "We believe that is our ball and we are going to get it back. When we put the ball on the dirt it kills our drives and when they put the ball on the ground it shuts them down and kills their momentum. It turns the tide of the game."
