Eagles win first regular-season game on the road

New Town came out of the Dynamic Dozen Girls Basketball Tournament with a lot of experience playing tough teams and it paid off as the Eagles took a relatively easy win Tuesday night against the Troopers in Garrison.
The Eagles were never really threatened as they opened up an early lead and kept it throughout the game in claiming the 48-30 win on a cold night in McLean County.
Jayli Fimbres was the only New Town player to score in double figures as she hit 11, but was followed closely by Rayessa Baker with 9 and Viola Wise Spirit, 8. Garrison was led by Brittney Klein with 11.
New Town’s biggest advantage came in the first quarter as they came out scoring 14, taking a 7-point lead at the end of the first stop. Garrison’s best effort came in the second as the Troopers were able to achieve double digits in getting 10 points back as the Eagles added 12 to go into halftime with a 26-17 lead.
A lackadaisical third quarter didn’t produce much offense, but kept New Town with the edge and in the fourth, the Eagles held the Troopers to 8 points to secure their first regular-season win.
But the Dynamic Dozen was another story. With all the teams playing in that tournament, the Eagles saw a variety of talent and won and lost during the show that was played over several days.
In a big win last Saturday, the Eagles pounded Trenton, 68-45 behind the scoring of Carolyn Wolf, 16, Braedyn Taft, 10 and Baileigh Brady, 10. Much like the Garrison game, the Eagles were never threatened except in the first quarter when the Eagles came away with a 12-11 edge.
Beyond that it was all New Town as the Eagles poured on the steam, outscoring the Tigers 20-9 to take an insurmountable lead.
Last Friday, however, the Eagles dropped a heartbreaking, one-point loss to Mandaree in a game that fans were as excited as ever.
