Eagles, Warriors advance to regionals

By Jerry W. Kram
There will be some new faces at the Region 8 tournament when it begins in Ray on Monday, Feb. 19. That’s because the Mandaree Warriors toppled the Parshall Lady Braves 55-46, in the Region Qualifying game to earn their first region tournament berth since 2009. The Braves were seeking a return trip to the region tournament after making it to the championship game three of the last four years. Mandaree will face the Stanley Blue Jays in the first round of the Region 8 Tournament at 6 p.m. at Ray High School.
“I have to attribute our success this year to our seniors,” said Warriors Head Coach Matthew Yellow Wolf. “I have been coaching and guiding them since they were sixth graders. All these girls have participated in the Mandaree traveling team to work on their game in the off season. After all these years of playing together things have finally started to come together.”
The New Town Eagles punched their ticket to the Region Tournament by dominating the White Shield Warriors 60-14 in the other Region Qualifying game. The Eagles will face the Divide County Maroons on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
