The New Town Eagles will face the third ranked Watford City Wolves in the final game of the Region 8 Girls Basketball Tournament in Ray on Thursday. The Eagles shut down District 16 champion Stanley Bluejays 71-49 and outmuscled the Parshall Braves 77-61 to reach the finals.
"We played a very good Parshall basketball team," said Eagles Head Coach Damon Brady. "They got us by 18 earlier in the year. I am proud of the girls."
The District 15 champion Watford City Wolves had little trouble vanquishing host team Ray, 81-27, and 18-3 Trenton-Trinity Christian 68-35.
The Braves earned their spot in the semifinals with a hard fought win over the Powers Lake Ranchers, 55-44, a game that saw four Braves foul out.
The Eagles and the Braves traded runs in the first half, with the Eagles starting out fast. With 1:29 to go in the first quarter, the Eagles built a six point lead. Parshall responded with a run of its own, cutting the Eagle’s lead to one point in the first two minutes of the second quarter. Halfway through the second quarter, the Braves went on a six point run to build up a seven point lead, 28-21. It was the Eagles turn to come back, tying the score at 32 with just half a minute left in the half. Parshall scored the last basket of the half to take a two point lead into the locker room.
