Eagles take three in district action

The New Town Eagles took a big step towards locking up the top seed in the District 15 boys basketball tournament with big wins over Parshall, Watford City and Mandaree this week. A nondistrict tilt against Tioga capped the week off, bringing their record for the season to 15-2. The Braves bounced back with a win Tuesday in Watford City.
In Saturday’s game with the 10-7 Braves, the Eagles were led by Joe Baker, who scored 34 points in the game, 26 of those points coming in the first half. In the second half, the team started feeding the ball inside to Darryl and Elijah Grady, who had 12 and 18 points, respectively. The Braves had a balanced scoring attack with four of their starters scoring in double figures led by Dean Foote with 23, followed by Jade Moran, 19, Justin Roberts, and Monte Good Bird with 12.
The teams were evenly matched for most of the game, with New Town holding a three point edge for most of the first half. The Eagles didn’t pull away until the last minute when the Braves were forced to foul. The final score was New Town 81, Parshall 71.
"It’s always a battle with Parshall," said Eagles Head Coach Chuck Hunter. "It’s a big game and every one gets pumped up, just like when we play Watford. Us, Parshall and Watford are always big games, and those are the ones you want."
Hunter said the team is starting to feel the offensive flow better in recent games. The team is starting to move the ball better giving players more open looks at the basket.
