Eagles take final game of the season

It was expected to be a rocky season for the New Town Eagles as they made the jump from nine man to 11 man football this year. But the team came together and provided fans with a season ending triumph over the Nedrose Cardinals by a score 44-34.
“It was a really gratifying win,” said Eagles head coach Len Abrams. “I’m really proud of them and happy for them. They are the ones who do it and work hard. They are the ones who lift weights and run extra.”
Both teams stumbled in the early going. New Town took the opening kickoff but gave up the ball on downs. Nedrose gave the ball right back on a fumbled pitch to the running back. The Eagles started to drive on the Cardinals but had a pass intercepted in the red zone. That set up the first score of the game as sophomore Kelly Eggen torched the Eagles for a 95 yard touchdown run with 6:09 to go in the first quarter. The conversion was good to make the score 8-0 in favor of Nedrose.
The Eagles took the next drive all the way down the field to score on a 12 yard run to make the score 8-6. But Eggen scored again on a 45 yard run to make it 14-6.
