Eagles take district win over the Braves

A second half rally propelled the New Town Eagles to a 70-58 victory over the Parshall Braves in a key District 15 boys basketball matchup Saturday with less than two weeks to go before the start of tournament play.
New Town took advantage of their size advantage inside with brothers Darryl and Elijah Grady scoring 19 and 8 points. Wayne Fox also posed a constant scoring threat for the Eagles, scoring 19 points including several fast breaks. Monte Good Bird was the leader for Parshall in the paint, scoring 19 points and collecting several blocked shots.
“We came in wanting to use our two big players to keep their big man on the outside,” said Eagles Coach Chuck Hunter. “We made him try to guard two guys. Monte is very agile for a big guy, but we knew if we got him foul trouble, we could contest a lot of shots.”
“We got outrebounded tonight,” said Braves Coach Dusty Olson. “The Grady boys did a fantastic job on the boards. Then we had a couple of defensive lapses. They got some good looks and we just couldn’t get things going in the second half.”
The first half was a close battle, with the Braves whittling down a five point Eagle lead in the first quarter to three points at the half. The Eagles went on a run early in the third quarter to build a 10 point lead in the third quarter and held on in the fourth quarter for a 12 point win.
