Eagles staying strong
By Jerry W. Kram
The New Town Eagles boys basketball team remained undefeated through nine games this season and the girls team improved to 11-4 heading into District 15 play in the coming weeks.
The Eagles boys stopped the Dunseith Dragons 72-65 in Dunseith before returning home to for district match against the White Shield Warriors in New Town, winning 54-42. D.J. LeBeau scored his 1,000th career point in the latter game. The Lady Eagles took two of three games, beating Kenmare 62-54, dropping a one-point loss to the Dunseith Dragons 60-59 and stopping the White Shield Warriors 48-19.
Boys Basketball Coach Robert White isn’t getting overconfident with his team’s fast start. He continues to say that there are six teams in the district that could go to regionals and two of them will be staying home. But he appreciated the defensive effort that limited the White Shield team, which had been averaging 72 points a game, to just nine points in each of the first three quarters on Tuesday.
