Eagles start winning streak

The New Town Eagles boys basketball team came out of the gate slowly this season, dropping three of their first five games, but they seem to have righted the ship with a three game winning streak. They took two games at the McLean County Shootout in Washburn, beating Underwood 71-51 and upsetting host team Washburn 60-57. They continued their winning ways Tuesday outrunning the Tioga Pirates 80-71.
Head Coach Robert White said he was proud of the way the team was starting to come together. He said the boys have been working hard in practice and were beginning to play as a team. That showed Tuesday as the Eagles held off a late game comeback by the Pirates and put up 28 fourth quarter points to secure the nine point win.
The Eagles went into the locker room at halftime with just a four point lead. Tioga was able to put together a run to take a three point lead in the middle of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles opened up the running game and took command. Payton White Owl had five three point baskets on his way to 28 points. Terrance Steele contributed another 20, including six straight free throws in the fourth quarter.
