Eagles put scare into Bishop Ryan
By Jerry W. Kram
With just one senior and one junior on the team, it is an understatement to say that the 2015 New Town Eagles girls basketball tream is a young, rebuilding team. While they didn’t prevail, the young Eagles team gave an older, bigger Bishop Ryan team all they could handle and the Shootout on the Prairie in Minot on Friday. The Eagles played even with the Lions for three quarters, but a big third quarter gave Bishop Ryan the edge in a 65-59 shootout.
"Our girls were ready to play," said Eagles Head Coach Damon Brady. "We know what kind of program Bishop Ryan has. We know what kind of coach they have. They have a really good system. We knew we would have to have four good quarters to play with them."
The Lions had a height advantage over the Eagles, so Brady went with an inside-out strategy that resulted in Kirah Morsette and Melayna Four Bears scoring from the three point line while Tamara Fox went inside for two field goals and free throw in the first quarter. That gave the Eagles a 13-11 advantage after the first eight minutes.
