Eagles play tough but fall to Bombers

Eagles play tough but fall to Bombers
By Jerry W. Kram
The New Town Eagles defense was more than a match for the Lewis and Clark-Our Redeemers offense for the first half of the varsity football game Friday, August 31. However, mistakes hampered the Eagles offense all game and the Bombers broke through in the second half for three touchdowns to win, 19-0.
The first half of the game was as defensive struggle. Neither team got within the 20 yard line until the final minutes of the first half. The Eagles took over the ball several times on downs as the Bombers declined to punt for the whole game.
Eagles quarterback Lucas Wollschlager had a tough game. A couple of long completions were called back on penalties in the first quarter, as were some good gains in the running game. Wollschlager was under duress for most of the game and was forced to come out of the game three times after hard hits. One of those hits resulted in a personal foul penalty for a late hit against the Bombers.
