Eagles lose heartbreaker

New Town took an early lead only to see it evaporate in the second half as the Watford City Wolves came from a 15-9 deficit to beat the Eagles 53-51 Monday night in high school girls basketball action.
It was the second game played for the Eagles since the holiday break and was the second loss, after dropping a lopsided contest to No. 7 ranked Dickinson Trinity on Saturday.
But this game in Watford City was much closer, evenly matched and had the atmosphere of a great high school rivalry.
After New Town opened the game with a 15-9, first quarter lead, Watford City outscored the Eagles in the second, 13-12. Each team scored 13 in the third that ended with New Town holding a 5-point edge at 40-35.
But Watford City’s game was in the fourth quarter as they came back with solid buckets and a couple of clutch free throws to outscore New Town 18-11 and seal the deal.
