The New Town Eagles football team held their first home game of the season on Saturday afternoon as they hosted the Standing Rock Warriors.
The opening kickoff didn’t favor the New Town Eagles as the Warriors ran back the kick 85 yards for a touchdown. The Eagles fell behind, 0-6, just 18 seconds in the game. New Town Eagles sophomore Damien Wilkie stopped the two point conversion and the Eagles prepared to answer the Warriors first score of the game.
After an Eagles first down, sophomore quarterback Lucas Wollschlager hooked up with Josh Bad Hawk for a 40 yard pass that brought the Eagles deep in Warriors territory at the 10 yard line. On third and goal, Wollschlager found Bad Hawk on slant route for the Eagles first touchdown of the game. Senior fullback Rodney Dragswolf converted the two point conversion for the Eagles to take the lead, 8-6, with just over 10 minutes to go in the first quarter.
After a fake punt on fourth and four, the Warriors moved the chains and got a first down. In the next series, the Warriors fumbled the ball Eagles sophomore linebacker Cole Danks recovered the ball. The next play, the Eagles went back to the air and Wollschlager threw his first interception of the game. The Eagles forced a three and out and began another offensive series.
