Despite having Billy Hall out with an injury, New Town grapplers performed as well as could be expected in a make up dual held last Tuesday night at Minot Ryan.
The Lions won the match 48-36, but New Town had two key wins and four forfeit wins that pushed the score higher than the actual competition indicated.
Jess Hall, at 136 pounds and Jace Uran, 171 pounds, both recorded impressive wins to keep the Eagles in the contest.
Hall pinned Glen Nelson in just 47 seconds for the major score and Uran, nearly as impressive, recorded a pin over Casey Jensch in 53 seconds.
Those were the only two competitive wins that New Town received while Zach Danks, Eric Danks, Slade Stringer and Jesse Bear, all won by forfeit. At 112, Cruz Young Wolf was pinned by Daniel Becker in 1:25.
On Saturday, New Town placed 10th in the 17-team Valley City tournament, a competition that haead coach Terry Mathson said his team could have placed seventh had Jess Hall been in the lineup.
In that match, Eric Danks placed first, pinning all of his opponents and remains undefeated at 11-0.
