Eagles hold on to beat Cowboys

By Jerry W. Kram
The New Town Eagles girls basketball team looked to have the game well in hand but had to hold off a late rush by the Killdeer Cowboys to hang onto a four point win 56-52.
“These kind of games are going to help us grow as a basketball team,” said Eagles Head Coach Damon Brady. “A lot of our younger girls stepped up tonight. Everyone contributed to the win.”
The Cowboys jumped out to a quick lead after the game was interrupted to commemorate Killdeer’s Trae Murray scoring her 1,000th point on a free throw. With three six foot tall players, Killdeer dominated on the inside, but the Eagles were able generate some fast breaks later in the first quarter to pull within one, 13-12. They took their first lead of the game less than a minute into the second period, 16-14. With 3:30 to go in the first half, the game was still tight at 23-22 in the Eagles’ favor. Over the next few minutes the Eagles broke the game open with a 12-5 run that gave the Eagles a 35-27 lead at the half.
